Prediction-Based Directional Fractional Pixel Motion Estimation for H.264 Video Coding

Overview: In an H.264 video encoder, Motion Estimation (ME) is the most time-consuming component. To reduce the complexity of fractional pixel ME, this paper proposes a prediction-based directional fractional pixel ME algorithm. The paper utilizes more accurate motion vector predictions and directional search to achieve better computation reduction and further proposes an early termination method to decrease the amount of search.
