Overview: Context-aware systems use sensors in order to analyze their environment and to adapt their behavior. Authors have designed and developed Sensation, an open and generic service-oriented platform, which provides powerful, yet easy-to-use, tools to software developers who want to develop context-aware, sensor-based infrastructures. The service-oriented paradigm of Sensation enables standardized communication within individual infrastructures, between infrastructures and their sensors, but also among distributed infrastructures. This paper presents the concept and the implementation of the service-oriented architecture of the Sensation platform. Finally, some conclusions are drawn and some ideas for further development of the Sensation concepts and implementation sketched.
