Overview: The read only Blu-ray Disc (BD-ROM) uses a substrate of about 1.1 mm nominal thickness. In the case of a Single Layer disc the substrate is covered with 1 Recorded Layer on top of which a transparent Cover Layer of about 0.1 mm is applied. This research paper introduces the key technologies underlying BD-ROM. The fundamental attributes contributing to the high capacity of BD-ROM and the advantages of BD-ROM are discussed in the paper.
