Overview: What is an access control? It could be a way to manage access to enterprise resources. If we go with the literal definition, access control is a mechanism to control the flow of information between subject and object where subject is always an active entity while object is a passive entity. In its broadest meaning, access control is a three-step process that includes identification, authentication, and authorization. In this white paper, the term authentication is used to represent both identification and authentication, and access control is used for authorization.
