Overview: The basic premises of industrial ecology are resource conservation and pollution prevention, and achieving this on a system wide basis. Systems thinking mean that they think of the product in terms of the materials extraction - refining - manufacturing - distribution - consumption - disposal scheme as they plan to produce it. One can think of the different levels of the system at which industrial ecology could operate.
