The ROI and TCO Benefits of Data Deduplication for Data Protection in the Enterprise

Source: Data Domain
Date: October 2009
Type: White Paper
Rating: (1)

Overview: Deduplication storage is quickly becoming the standard for disk-based backup and nearline storage use in enterprise data centers across many industries. It delivers clear benefits for the retention, recovery and replication of backup and other nearline data and allows customers to eliminate tape from the processes of both operational recovery and disaster recovery.

In order to quantify the benefits of deduplication, industry expert Barb Goldworm, Focus Consulting, interviewed and documented the experiences of three enterprise customers who have implemented Data Domain systems into their storage fabric.

In evaluating the business case for data protection products, four primary criteria were used:

• Purchases avoided
• Direct savings
• Labor savings
• Total cost of ownership (TCO)
