Any industry observer now can see that enterprise data protection approaches must adapt to new enterprise realities. We believe that the traditional methods and approaches of the past have been almost entirely exhausted.

Specifically, we have watched our end user colleagues endure a data growth explosion that has translated into chronically over-extended backup windows, poor data visibility, limited recovery flexibility, and a reactive management mindset across the board. IT teams have been making backup applications handle workloads and methodologies for which they were never designed, and their data protection strategies are often fractured on a case-by-case basis. In essence, we've reached a macro-level breaking point.

Similar to backup, enterprise archiving also suffers from these same paradigm exhaustion issues. Changes in workflows and the availability of affordable disk media have catalyzed archiving into an entirely new functional role. Companies want to retain whatever they can reasonably retain, as seamlessly as possible including the automated and guaranteed disposal. Again, the toolsets of an earlier archiving era are not well equipped to handle this expanded role. As a result, growing archive volumes require heavy management overhead, and all too often IT cannot prove that their contents are tamper-proof.
