Overview: RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is the standard for combining multiple independent hard drives to form one large logical array. Each RAID level represents very different trade-offs in terms of cost, availability, and performance. Applications that can benefit from RAID 10 are ones where both high performance and reliability are paramount. RAID 5 is still the best choice for pure redundancy when using four drives or less, but when performance is a key to the success of an application, and when many more drives to create larger arrays; RAID 10 is the new standard in application data redundancy.
