(0)Overview: Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is a sustainable storage strategy that balances the cost of storing and managing information with its business value. ILM provides a practical methodology for aligning storage costs with business priorities. Storage optimization is one of the key elements of ILM. The goal of storage optimization is to deliver required service levels at the lowest possible total cost of ownership (TCO). This paper examines the underlying elements of storage optimization, and describes a path for using an ILM strategy to achieve optimized storage.
