Overview: The increase of geographically dispersed users and telecommuting has given rise to greater requirements for better methods of collaboration and interaction between personnel. This has increased the prevalence of technologies such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and multimedia protocols such as video-conferencing, web-casting and Instant Messaging. Implementing these applications in firewalled environments and over wireless networks poses a number of security issues, which need to be addressed as part of any such deployment. This paper identifies and explores some of the issues that may affect organizations deploying this technology.
