Overview: Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is both an application programming interface (AI) and a device-driver interface (DDI). The WIA API allows applications to run in a process that is separate from the driver; enumerate available image acquisition devices; create simultaneous connections to multiple devices; and query the properties of devices in a standard and extensible manner. WIA 2.0 was introduced in Windows Vista. This paper introduces Microsoft WIA 2.0 and the new features that have been introduced in Windows Vista. It describes the basic concepts that developers need to write a WIA 2.0 device driver or application.
