Overview: The University of Iowa is a major research university located in Iowa City, Iowa. The university comprises 11 colleges with 14,700 employees serving 29,000 students. The university’s decentralized technology policy led to the presence of a variety of desktop software, which increased IT support costs and deployment time. Professors sought efficiencies and better teaching tools. Multiple departments elected to immediately move 500 computers to the Windows Vista operating system. The university plans to move more than 2,000 systems to Windows Vista by mid-2008.
