Beyond Basic IP: Fast Processor Failover Delivers High Availability

Overview: Cisco NSR and NSR/SSO collectively form an integral component of the Cisco high-availability initiative. Combined with redundant route processor components and best practices for network design and operations, these capabilities significantly boost the resilience levels of IP networks. Cisco NSR operates in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) networks. An enhancement to Cisco Nonstop Forwarding and Stateful Switchover (NSF/SSO) capabilities, Cisco NSR eliminates the requirement for all router peers to support the same protocol modifications in order to work. Cisco NSF/SSO also maintains forwarding table information, so the router can continue to forward while it rebuilds its routing information.
