Overview: The RFID industry is a young industry, only in the ferment stage of its evolution. Only more recently have leaders begun to emerge from among the four hundred firms in the industry. In addition to basic evolutionary pressures like finding a dominant design, there are a number of other factors driving the difficult outlook for many RFID firms. These factors include the maturation of extra-RFID technologies, the role of standards, the fragmented mapping of RFID technologies to RFID applications, and the role of large scale solution providers.
