Overview: Wireless communications in the military is centered on what is known as C4ISR: Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance. These terms are generally defined as follows. Command: orders and intent from the superior officer; Control: authority at less than full command; Communications: information transfer between force elements; Computers: information and data processing systems; Intelligence: collection, processing, integration, analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of available information; Surveillance: systematic observation of areas, places, persons, or things; and Reconnaissance: detection and observation of an adversary or collection of the environmental characteristics in an area of interest.
