This paper explores how to extend and enhance data protection infrastructures by leveraging the new tools and technologies of storage networking and storage security. The result of applying these tools and techniques is more efficient business operations and universal data availability. One of the basic goals for the new storage network is to consolidate storage so as to reduce both the cost and complexity of the storage infrastructure. Each copy of data adds to the cost and complexity of managing storage. Consolidation of copies is one of the key ways to reduce cost and gain scalability of storage resources.
