The expansion of RFID technology has gained strong momentum in the past few years. The strongest driving force is the mandate imposed by giant retailers like the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and the Tesco Plc. on their suppliers on RFID tagged shipments. Such mandate has led to increased demand on RFID and thus, the costs of RFID tags and devices are becoming more affordable. This paper recapitulates the present deployment of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and discusses the potential applications in the Government.
This paper published by Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region describes that Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) is a technology aimed at providing high-speed access, using wireless means, to networks for users over a wide area. Such networks also have the potential of reaching locations which would not be economically viable to be reached by copper and optical fibre networks. Customer access networks based on this technology can be rolled out relatively quickly as no road opening is involved.
