Can Huawei Succeed in the U.S.?
Huawei faces significant headwinds as it tries to gain a foothold in the enterprise hardware market, according to the 454 respondents to our InformationWeek Huawei Technologies Outlook Survey, all of whom screened in by indicating involvement in evaluating, selecting, approving or running network infrastructure technology and some degree of familiarity with Huawei. As of April, just 23% were customers (8%) or had tested (12%) or solicited RFP/RFIs for the company’s gear (3%). But that’s not to say the company’s pricing isn’t attractive to IT.
Other data points:
>> 60% have more than a very basic understanding of Huawei’s product lines and strategy.
>> 42% have or would consider purchasing switches; just 25% say the same about security gear.
>> 35% say Cisco and other networking vendors should consider Huawei a formidable competitor for top-dog position.
>> 15% say flat out that Huawei is not a viable alternative for enterprise technology.

Respondent breakdown: 33% have 5,000 or more employees; 22% are over 10,000. Telecommunications firms and ISPs, IT vendors, and consulting and business services firms are well represented, and 49% are IT director/manager or IT executive management (C-level/VP) level. (R6850513)
