Skirting the Big Data Expertise Shortage

Dec 20, 2013

Big data is already a big thing. Just ask companies that live or die by the value of their data, like Google or Facebook, or government operations that have come to rely on it, like the Department of Health and Human Services or the Transportation Security Administration.

Because big data is already big, it’s suffering from the same IT worker shortage that plagues all rapidly growing sectors. And because it is projected to grow astronomically, and because the top job in big data — the data scientist — is such a rare specialty, the worker shortage for big data alone is expected to be even greater in the near future.

Can anything be done to help those departments and agencies that rely heavily on big data? Let’s take a look. (S7710114)
