Overview: This quick start guide highlights some of the main differences between Solaris and Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® and is intended to help application developers port their code. It covers differences in shell environments, guides basic usage of the RPM package manager, and discusses the robust development environment offered by GNU development tools (based on the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC)). This is not an exhaustive document, but is intended to help Solaris developers get working on Red Hat Enterprise Linux quickly.
