5 Best Practices: Network Management in Education

Connectivity options on higher-education campuses figure prominently in research, academics, administration, even how one school stacks up against its peers when recruiting students and faculty. In fact, never has so much ridden on the network in the higher-ed space—both literally and figuratively. Fortunately, there are a plethora of tools and techniques available to keep networking operations healthy and reliable; in this report we’ll look at five best practices for campus LAN management, including enabling WLAN access, network admission policies and procedures, and considerations for managing virtualization. We’ll also address some unique challenges facing higher-ed IT groups, many of which revolve around the distributed vs. centralized model.  (B1971010)
