A Guide to Security and Enterprise Directories

At the core of many enterprise operations is the stalwart directory. Enterprise directory services enable organizations to keep track of users, resources and systems. Directories are also used for security, to tie together policies, but most ­organizations do not take it any further than that. That’s unfortunate, because enterprise directories can be used to ­enable and support a wide array of security initiatives.

In this report, we examine enterprise directories—through the lens of Microsoft Active Directory—and make recommendations for extending schema and defining objects so that ­directory technology can be effectively applied to a variety of network and security administration tasks. (S5720912)
