Virtual desktop infrastructure technology isn't the slam dunk some thought it would be just a few years ago, but it's a useful bridge between the Windows-based PC world of the past and the mobile future. VDI offers mobility, security and manageability benefits over traditional PCs, but cost and other factors could limit its value.
