I know it seems far-fetched, but there's a constant stream of humor in the technology industry, and my aim each month is to dig it up--and even if it's not really there, to ridicule it anyway. Like Microsoft buying AOL patents (one can imagine what they'll do with AOL's hold on the ability to stuff magazines with CDs), or AT&T changing its slogan (to "it's what you do with what we do" which is, frankly, pretty silly) or T-Mobile spokeswoman Carly tossing aside her innocent image for a Ducati and motorcycle leathers.
What could be more interesting than the Masters golf tournament snubbing new IBM CEO Virginia Rometty, or Republican nominee-in-waiting Mitt Romney's use of Google+ Hangouts? How about an Oregon man stripping naked at an airport TSA checkpoint to protest what he felt was a violation of his privacy--perhaps users of Facebook and other social networks want to take note?
There might be nothing funny about Big Data, except that it now seems to be the answer to every question being asked in IT right now; in other words, it's become the most hyped technology of 2012, and that makes it ripe for ridicule.
