Yahoo News Exclusive Hot Zone Content Begins

Yahoo News began airing its exclusive news content Sunday with a veteran war correspondent's dispatches from Somalia.

Kevin Sites is producing multimedia reports as he travels to conflict areas around the globe. His first report, from Mogadishu, where a U.S. Black Hawk helicopter was downed in 1993, marks the first time Yahoo! has provided its own news content.

Sites worked as a freelance reporter airing controversial footage of a U.S. Marine killing a wounded Iraqi inside a Fallujah mosque. He began the Yahoo! News endeavor last week. He interviewed a woman whose 3-year-old child was crushed as the helicopter went down in the Battle of Mogadishu. His report features an article, video, a photo essay and links to other Somalia-related Web pages.

Yahoo News announced plans for the site, Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone, several weeks ago. The company stated that its goal was to set new standards for interactive news gathering.

Yahoo decided to hold last week's content until this week, citing security concerns. It promises a blog and live dispatches, beginning next week.
