3Com Revamps Its Gigabit Switch Lineup

The Baseline Switch and Office Connect Managed Gigabit PoE products feature auto-voice VLAN, which automatically detects and connects any standards-based IP phone.

Networking hardware maker 3Com on Tuesday introduced a line of gigabit switches ranging from 16- to 48-port models that have been designed for easy out-of-the-box implementation.

The 3Com Baseline Switch 2900 Plus Family and the 3Com OfficeConnect Managed Gigabit PoE Switch support voice-ready Layer 2 gigabit switching with Power over Ethernet, the company said in its Tuesday product introduction.

The products feature auto-voice VLAN, which automatically detects and connects any standards-based IP phone; quality-of-service priority ensures sufficient bandwidth and Gigabit Ethernet performance throughput enables high-bandwidth applications including video, IP security, as well as ERP and CRM applications.

The Baseline Switch 2900 Plus Family rack-mountable switches come in three models " 16-, 24- and 48-port models. A 24-port PoE version features data and power delivery over the same cabling.

The OfficeConnect managed Gigabit PoE Switch is targeted at desktop deployment in small businesses seeking to deploy VoIP and wireless technologies in their networks. With 10 Power-over-Ethernet-enabled 10/100/1000 ports, the OfficeConnect switch links easily with high-performance computers, servers, and network backbones, 3Com said.

The OfficeConnect and Baseline Switch 2900 lines have been designed for easy setup and management and feature intuitive menu-driven processes. The Baseline Switch models range in price from $355 to $995 while the 24-port PoE model is priced at $1,195.

To celebrate the product combination, 3Com is offering a deal between Sept. 3 and Nov. 30. If customers purchase either a Baseline Switch 2900 or OfficeConnect Managed Gigabit PoE Switch, they are able to tack on a Gigabit Switch 5, a Gigabit Switch 8, a Wireless 7760 11a/b/g PoE Access Point, or an IntelliJack Switch NJ220 at no additional cost. The offer limits one claim per invoice and only five free product SKUs per customer.

In a recent complex $2.2 billion acquisition, 3Com was acquired by Bain Capital Partners; 3Com's longtime partner Huawei Technologies has a minority stake in the new company structure.
