5GB Pocket Drive Is Thumb Drive On Steroids

Seagate 5GB Pocket Hard Drive offers migration path from thumb drives; 100GB Portable External Hard Drive includes back-up software

Seagate Technology has introduced a 5-gigabyte version of its Pocket Hard Drive, a USB 2.0 device housed in a round case about three inches in diameter. The drive, which incorporates the same mechanics used in Seagate's Compact Flash type II-compatible media drive, is intended to provide a high-capacity alternative to Flash-memory "thumb drives."

The company also announced a USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive that offers 100GB of storage. Based on a 2.5-inch 5,400-rpm hard drive, the device has a footprint about the size of a postcard.

The 100GB model includes an 8MB cache and includes CMS BounceBack Express backup software. Both drives are available now.
