Akamai Partners With CacheFlow

Akamai Technologies Inc., a provider of Internet content-delivery services, and CacheFlow Inc., a vendor of caching servers, today unveiled a partnership under which they will integrate their caching and content-delivery technologies.

By integrating Akamai's (AKAM--Nasdaq) technology into its caching appliances, CacheFlow (CFLO--Nasdaq) will enable enterprises and Web-site owners to automate their Web content distribution and ensure that content is delivered quickly, the companies say.

The CacheFlow appliance, a device that accelerates and controls content delivery, will be placed between a content provider's servers and Akamai's network of servers. When the CacheFlow appliance receives requests for content from users accessing that site, content will be delivered to users through Akamai's FreeFlow service.

"This agreement clarifies the position of content-delivery service providers and caching service providers by pointing out that they're complementary services," says Alex Benik, an analyst at the Yankee Group.

As part of the agreement, CacheFlow has also agreed to resell Akamai's FreeFlow service with its caching appliances.
