After a week of iPod mania, Apple Computer returned to its personal computing roots Tuesday as it updated its Xserve RAID 3U rack storage system with up to 7 terabytes of storage capacity.
Prices for the system begin at $5,999, translating to $1.86 per GB. The Xserve RAID features 14 independent 500GB Ultra ATA drive channels. The company noted that Xserve RAID is certified to operate in Mac OS, X, Windows, NetWare, SUSE and Red Hat Linux environments.
At the same time, Apple announced an upgrade to its Xserve 1U rack server with up to 3 500GB drives (1.5TB of storage). Configurations for the model begin at $2,999.
