AST Debuts Desktops, Notebooks



AST Computer yesterday introduced two lines of desktop andnotebook computers. The machines are aimed at smallbusinesses and consumers and will be available at the end ofthis month on the company's Web site.

The Bravo desktop computers come with Pentium III 450-MHzand 500-MHz chips, and optional digital versatile disk movieplayback as well as enhanced graphics, audio, and speechrecognition. Prices start at $1,699 for the 450-MHz and$2,099 for the 500-MHz version.

The company's Ascentia notebook computers weigh 3.7 poundsand contain Pentium II 250-MHz and 300-MHz chips. The 280Mis the size of a paperback, the company says, but comes witha full desktop-size keyboard. The 760A is an all-in-onedevice with a Mobile Pentium II 300-MHz processor, a 14-inchTFT display, and built-in disk drive, floppy drive, and CD-ROM. Prices start at $999 for the 280M and $2,299 for the760A.
