AT&T To Offer Local Frame Relay Service

AT&T today disclosed plans to offer local frame relay, unveiling a new "any-distance" service consisting of its new local and existing long-distance and global services.

Those combined services will turn AT&T into a one-stop shop for its large frame relay customers who want to put all their frame relay services on one tab. This also gives local companies an option for frame relay service.

AT&T will supply frame relay services in 40 U.S. cities, starting with Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Milwaukee before year's end. The service provider will add other cities to its roster beginning in the first quarter of next year.

The local frame relay service will be deployed on AT&T's existing switching infrastructure. Several options, including closed-loop congestion management, Web-based electronic servicing, and Web-based performance reports that are available as part of its national frame relay service, will also be available. Other features like frame relay to ATM service internetworking and disaster recovery will follow next year.
