It's ludicrous to suggest that any vertical industry or horizontal process can be transformed with technology alone. Mining data to prevent terrorism may be a case in point.
We need to rein in costs, not try to hide them. Part of the solution involves getting more advanced IT tools into the hands of health care providers and better information into the hands of patients.
The company's Black Friday Web site debacle smacks of the rampant outages and slowdowns circa 2000. We expect better from the world's biggest and most influential retailer.
