George Crump is president and founder of Storage Switzerland, an IT analyst firm focused on the storage and virtualization segments. With 25 years of experience designing storage solutions for datacenters across the US, he has seen the birth of such technologies as RAID, NAS, and SAN. Prior to founding Storage Switzerland, he was CTO at one the nation’s largest storage integrators, where he was in charge of technology testing, integration, and product selection. Cloud storage may end up being the great storage repository in the sky. The destination that holds all our data and gets it off of our local storage. Whether you use this as a fourth tier of storage that your internal archive spills over too or as your sole archive, someday you are going to need to find data in it. Should we be indexing cloud storage to find the needle in the haystack?

As the use of cloud storage becomes more prevalent this year one of the key challenges is what data should go to cloud storage, when that data should be moved there and how should that data be moved there?
