Re: Easy Access?
There's a reason why people constantly say this is a journey!  :-)

Easy Access?
Easy Acces: Is it possible for an "ordinary person" with IT assistance?  I worry more about the ordinary person having access to do their own analysis.  I suppose only the fit will survive, but the more ordinary people there are doing this stuff, the more often things will go kerflooey, sometimes with disastrous consequences and more difficult to trace back to the source of the problem.  The source is not the indivdual who goofed, it was in putting the capability in the hands of ordinary people, when mission critical processes are involved.

Great article however!

Re: Self-Service Is Critical

Statistics can tell any story, and so can the data visualizations that are supposed to reflect those statistics. Even if the presentation is ideally suited to the dataset, it can nevertheless tell very different stories depending on how it's presented.

This right here is why self-service may be desirable but a bit scary. Raaw data in the hands of those ignorant in the ways of statistics and data analysis is just borrowing trouble. I love the idea of being able to get instant changes to data, but depending on the person it might lead them erroneous conclusions.

Self-Service Is Critical
It is important to have easy access when analyzing data instead of seeking IT assistance. However is this possible for an ordinary person?
