The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said Thursday that there is a voluntary recall of some flash drives sold by Lexar Media because they could overheat and pose a risk of burns to consumers.
Noting that Lexar is cooperating in the product recall, the federal agency said consumers should cease using the devices and contact the company for a refund. The cited devices, all manufactured in China, are the Lexar JumpDrive Secure II 1 GB and certain models of the FireFly JumpDrive.
The CPSC said no injuries or incidents involving the devices " estimated to number about 66,000 -- have been reported.
The FireFly drives named by the CPSC include 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB and 2 GB capacity models. The JumpDrive Secure II 1 GB model was sold exclusively by Fry's Electronics.
