Brief: Verizon Offers Wireless Syncing Of Contact Lists

Verizon Wireless subscribers with phones that support the Brew platform can download Plaxo's Mobile Plus software and synchronize contact information with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and other applications.

Verizon Wireless is offering cellular phones that can synchronize their contact lists with popular email applications found in Macs and PCs, and with Yahoo Web mail, Plaxo, the provider of the software, said Tuesday.

Verizon Wireless subscribers with phones that support the Brew wireless application platform can download Plaxo's Mobile Plus software and synchronize contact information with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL's instant messaging service, Yahoo Mail, the Max OS X Address Book and Thunderbird, the open-source email client from Mozilla Corp.

U.S. Cellular and Alltel Wireless are scheduled to offer the same service in the coming weeks, a Plaxo spokeswoman said. Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group, is selling the service for $4.49 a month.

The Plaxo service is meant to eliminate the hassle and time spent punching in contact information, such as names, telephone numbers and addresses, into mobile phones. Users, however, have to choose which contacts they want copied to the phones.
