Brief: Yahoo Updates Toolbar With Tabbed Browsing For IE
A similar feature helped boost the popularity of Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox browser.
Yahoo Inc. has updated its toolbar with tabbed browsing from within Internet Explorer 5 and 6.
The ability to use tabs to toggle from one Web site to another without opening a new browser window has been a feature that has contributed to the popularity of Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox browser. Microsoft has added the feature to IE7, which is currently in beta.
In adding the feature to version 6.3 of the IE toolbar, Yahoo hopes to attract IE 5 and 6 users before Microsoft ships the final version of IE7.
On the Firefox side, Yahoo on Sunday said on its search blog that it has added to version 1.1.1 improvements in the toolbar's features for bookmarks, mail alerts and detecting spyware.
In addition, Yahoo has released a button that can be added to the IE or Firefox toolbar to take people directly to Yahoo's Del.iciou.us service, which is used to save and share Web sites.
