April 1st unleashes the silly and the search provider continues its tradition of creative hoaxes by renaming the company.Organizing the world's information isn't enough for the folks at Google who once again put all their wood behind one arrow to continue the company's April Fool's tradition. Though this year, the joke was more tied to business initiatives than pure folly as in the past: the company renamed itself Topeka today in a nod to the Kansas capital's promotional stunt to lure Google's fiber-optic network to the great plains.
April 1 does present an interesting challenge for any company attempting to announce any real news. The inevitable is this a joke headline is obligatory witness today's Netflix for the iPad (real or joke, you decide...)
TechCrunch has a growing list of today's pranks (with Google dominating the list does Google do more April Fool's Day jokes or is it just easier to search for them?). And PC World has compiled a top 10 list.
Check out this compilation of hoaxes from the tech world or this more historical (and global) view of great hoaxes and pranks.
