Businesses can now sign up for one of the Verizon Solutions for Business phone-plus-broadband service plans on a month-to-month basis. The carrier is also rolling out SMB-oriented website building tools. The month-to-month service plans -- available, of course, only in states where Verizon provides broadband and landline service -- offer a combination of phone service and high-speed Internet service via either FiOS or DSL. Businesses can also add TV service if they wish. The bundles start at $60/month (plus taxes and fees); a plan with FiOS Internet for Business and unlimited calling is $80/month. The prices are guaranteed for 12 months with no term commitment.

The new Verizon Websites plans, created in conjunction with Intuit, are available anywhere. According to Verizon (quoting a study by IDC), about 40 percent of small businesses don't yet have a company website, and many who do aren't satisfied with it. The plans, also available with no term contract, rely on the online SiteBuilder software with more than 2,000 customizable templates and 250,000 royalty-free images, and come with unlimited e-mail support. Customers have access to analytic tools to monitor their traffic and have access to Intuit WebListings to get their sites on search listings.

One site with five pages costs $5/month; the Gold plan allows up to three sites with 100 pages plus an online shopping cart for $20/month. Businesses that sign up for a phone and Internet bundle. Businesses that sign up for a bundle that includes broadband and unlimited calling will get the Gold package and WebLIstings free for a year.
