New features of the enterprise service bus include broader messaging support.

Web services pioneer Cape Clear Software Tuesday said it updated its enterprise service bus to include broader messaging support and improved usability of its orchestration engine.

Cape Clear 6.1 now supports the WS-ReliableMessaging Web services standard and runs on Java Message Service (JMS) infrastructure software from a variety of vendors, including Oracle, Sonic Software, Tibco and IBM. The Waltham, Mass., company also licensed JMS software from JBoss, which Cape Clear offers as an option.

"We now have a three-part messaging story," said Cape Clear CEO Annrai O'Toole. "We run on everyone else's JMS, such as Tibco's or IBM's, which should appeal to a lot of enterprise customers. Second, we now embed the most popular JMS in the world, from JBoss. And finally, if you are a proper services purist, we offer WSReliableMessaging, for guaranteed messaging over http."

Besides beefing up messaging support, Cape Clear also improved the usability features of its BPEL (business process execution language) engine. New features include a simpler interface for constructing complex workflows, the ability to automatically generate process variables and drag-and-drop links.

O'Toole said Cape Clear has been steadily forging relationships, starting with the Eclipse community, JBoss and Neon Systems. "We're also building active partnerships with systems integrators," O'Toole said. "That will become our main way into the market. Most new investments in our sales force are partner- and channel-related, because that's where I see our future."
