Amazon Delivers Unlimited Cloud Storage

Amazon is making a big move in the cloud storage space with a recent decision to bring unlimited cloud storage to Cloud Drive customers.

The e-commerce company announced March 26 that it's rolling out two plans designed to provide secure storage for users' existing content while also allowing them to automatically upload unlimited amounts of videos, music, photos, movies, and files to the cloud.

Customers with vast photo collections can choose the Unlimited Photos Plan, which will cost $11.99 per year, or less than $1 per month. This option provides endless photo storage in Cloud Drive and also includes 5GB of extra storage space for videos and other documents.

For those with greater storage needs, Amazon is offering the Unlimited Everything Plan, which allows storage of new and existing documents, photos, videos, and music for $59.99 per year.

"Most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments stored across numerous devices. And, they don't know how many gigabytes of storage they need to back all of them up," said Amazon Cloud Drive director Josh Petersen in the company's announcement. "With the two new plans we are introducing today, customers don't need to worry about storage space – they now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and files in one convenient place."

Both plans will be available for free three-month trial periods before their payment plans kick in. Amazon Prime customers and owners of the Kindle Fire, who already have access to unlimited photo storage, can choose to upgrade their plan. Current customers of Cloud Drive can switch plans via their account page.

This announcement makes Amazon a stiff competitor in the ever-growing cloud space, which is crowded with providers like Google, Apple, Dropbox, and Microsoft, battling for market share with cheap storage. Amazon's endless storage will likely prove a tempting option for consumers with ever-growing piles of digital documents.

I wasn't aware that Amazon exploited their employees. That would make a difference.

Glenrbren,

Amazon causes mixed feelings in me most of the time.

On the one hand I love the fact that they routinely offer the Cheapest Products(with the widest range to Boot) on the other hand I hate it that they exploit their employees so aggressively.

I wish there was a middle-path here.

Unless this service gains traction and we see Customer Responses ;I won't be prepared to make judgements on their Services beforehand.

Re: Amazon Delivers Unlimited Cloud Storage
Freespirit,

Even before this deal from Amazon there were a lot of Providers offering Storage space for much-much less than Apple.

IMHO,and especially after the Jennifer Lawrence Photos Scandal only a fool/rabid Apple Fan-Boy would pay extra to put up their storage with Apple.

What remains to be seen is how long this deal from Amazon lasts and/or are their any extra riders in their T&C Documents?

Hardly anybody reads the Fineprint on these Docs do they????

Re: The marketing buzzwords aren't always accurate
ASkSqn,

Since this is a new service I won't be surprised if this is just another one of those Marketing Gimmicks to attract consumers to try the service and hope they stick around for the Long-term.

I agree entirely with your Sceptism here regarding the fact that the price is too low to offer Unlimited Storage (even with the Unbelievable Scale and Efficiencies that only Amazon can manage) so I am guessing the T&C

clearly states the obvious here(this is either a limited time service or a service available only to a few initial users).

I knew there was a reason I liked Amazon! I've been avoiding the cloud, but if this is true, I'm in! I hope the offer isn't only in the US.

The marketing buzzwords aren't always accurate
Let's hope that Amazon's "unlimited" offer doesn't turn out to be the same kind of "unlimited" the telcoes marketed to broadband consumers and then later reneged in favor of data caps.
