Salesforce.com picking on SAP?
It seems like Salesforce.com is picking on SAP lately, featuring SAP customers that are working with Salesforce to do everything agile, mobile and cloud while treating ERP as, well, ERP. Lighting Connect is another example, and it just so happens SAP has embraced OData, making it easy for Salesforce to expose all that backend data within its world.
Lighting Connect is obviously good for human consumption -- supporting up-to-the-minute lookups and visualizatiosn of data -- but it's not quite clear to what degree is can power lights-out workflows and busienss processes. The data-integration vendors with enterprise application integration (EAI) chops tell me this is no replacement for the event- and message-based systems that actually copy data into Salesforce rather than just exposing it for viewing purposes.
