Microsoft's console is the preferred platform for Activision Blizzard's smash hit FPS, according to sales data from Amazon.
Blockbuster video game Call of Duty: Black Ops was more popular on Microsoft's Xbox 360 console than rival Sony's PlayStation 3 as of early Monday, according to the world's largest online retailer.
Amazon listed the Xbox version of Activision Blizzard's cold-war themed first-person shooter at number one overall in video game sales, while the PlayStation version was ranked second. The Nintendo Wii version, meanwhile, was ranked a lowly 42nd.
COD: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch, is quickly establishing itself as one of the best-selling video games of all time. The title, which sells for $59 for the basic version, went on sale in North America and the UK last week and racked up first day sales of $360 million.
"There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year's five-day global sales record of $550 million," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, in a statement.
"The game's success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet," said Kotick.
COD Duty: Black Ops, the seventh installment of the franchise, is the first to be set in the Cold War era, when the U.S. and the Soviet Union engaged in war-by-proxy for global supremacy. Players assume the characters of clandestine American special forces soldiers who attempt to disrupt Soviet operations behind enemy lines.
Theaters of combat in the game include Russia, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In a testament to the extent to which video games are going mainstream, voiceovers are provided by some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Ed Harris and Gary Oldman.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is currently available at most major retailers and electronics outlets.
