Compaq Scales The Himalayas For E-Business

Compaq will unveil a suite of electronic-business softwaretoday for its Tandem division's Himalaya systems. Thesoftware will be available on the Himalaya S72000 server andencompass middleware for heterogeneous database access,transaction services for server-based Java, and the abilityto create nonstop applications from Java scripts.

The integrated ISG Navigator allows customers to access dataon Himalaya from other platforms, including NT servers. ISGNavigator gives users a single view of multipleheterogeneous databases so they can come in via standard Webbrowsers.

Transaction Server for Java incorporates Corba transactionmiddleware in Java and allows customers to raise thecapabilities of Java apps. The multiplatform strengths ofJava get a boost from the massively parallel Himalaya systemin the form of high-performing transaction support.Transaction Server for Java lets the development environmentfail over an unlimited number of ways in case of a system orapplication outage. The Active Transaction Pages from Compaqhandle the flip side of Java high availability. With it,Java developers can write nonstop applications from server-side Java scripts.
