Compuware Corp. has extended the application availability-management capabilities of its EcoTools software to Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange and Internet Information Server, and Novell NetWare. Compuware also has released EcoSnap 2.0, the latest version of the company's application recovery tool.
EcoTools and EcoSnap are components of Compuware's EcoSystems suite for application service-level management. Both products were introduced yesterday at the ComNet show in Washington, D.C.
Programs such as Notes and Exchange have become increasingly critical to the daily operation of many businesses, and that is increasing the demand for availability-management tools for groupware and E-mail systems, according to Gartner Group Inc. research director Donna Scott. "Recovery times must be very short today because these are the corporate communications system," Scott says.
The new version of EcoSnap helps speed application recovery by identifying incompatible versions of dynamically linked libraries, a frequent cause of Windows application failures, according to Compuware. If an IS organization is unable to predict or prevent an application failure, "then the next best thing is to isolate it, diagnose it quickly, and resolve it," using tools like EcoSnap, Scott says.
Both products are available immediately. Prices for EcoSnap 2.0 begin at $34,000, while EcoTools is priced at $695 per managed server.
