Credit Suisse Disruptive Technology Portfolio Mover Of The Week: Red Hat
An index of companies shaking up traditional business models.Red Hat showed the biggest change last week of all the Disruptive Technology Portfolio companies, falling more than 19% after its 2Q earnings announcement on Tuesday. The report revealed a sequential decline in billings, affecting Red Hat's cash flow.
The company explained that internal issues caused these results; namely, sales disruptions due to JBoss integration, changes in the sales organization in the Asia-Pacific region, and a shift toward annual billing for multiyear deals. This explanation rang hollow with investors, however, as Red Hat's results raised some questions about whether growth rates for the core Linux operating system market were decelerating. The uncertainty put pressure on Red Hat's stock, which fell about 23% overnight.
Overall last week, the Disruptive Technology Portfolio and the S&P 500 both increased slightly. The DTP closed up 0.5%, with 15 stocks up and 15 down. The S&P 500 was up 0.9%.
