CSC Buys Aussie IT Company



Computer Sciences Corp. is buying Australia's BHP Information Technology Propriety Ltd. in an effort to break into the Aussie industrial market. Financial terms were not disclosed.

BHP, a unit of mining and steel company Broken Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd., has 1,700 employees and contractors. As part of the deal, CSC signed a seven-year, $470 million outsourcing contract with Broken Hill. CSC will provide IT services, including consulting and systems integration.

Broken Hill has $153 million in revenue. It mines and processes petroleum and minerals, and produces steel.
