Dell Debuts Network Service, Server
Dell Computer has launched a new service intended to make iteasier for small businesses to network their offices. Thecompany has also introduced a new server, designed to givethese same businesses additional scalability and managementfeatures.
The service, called NetWorks, will give businesses withfewer than 100 employees a one-stop shop for setting up anetwork. Dell will provide the hardware, software, andservices, while Wang Global performs site surveys andinstallation. Although the cost of the service can varywidely, a typical setup is priced around $11,000.
The PowerEdge 1300 server is designed to replace the desktopcomputers many small and midsize companies use for sharedfile-and-print or business-resource applications, Dell said.It supports two Intel Pentium II processors running at350 MHz, 400 MHz, or 450 MHz, up to 1 Gbyte of memory, andup to 54 Gbytes of internal storage. Prices start at $1,699.
