CES 2007: It Can Be A Lonely Trade Show For Some

It's been a long two days, and at 6 p.m., closing time at the Las Vegas Convention Center, everyone is either on line for a bus, on line for a cab, trudging wearily back to their hotel -- or, as I am, sitting in Starbucks doing some last minute work and just letting their feet rest.

It's been a long two days, and at 6 p.m., closing time at the Las Vegas Convention Center, everyone is either on line for a bus, on line for a cab, trudging wearily back to their hotel -- or, as I am, sitting in Starbucks doing some last minute work and just letting their feet rest.I met with some of the loneliest people at the Samsung booth today. While the company has made a splash with its new ultra-slim YP-T9B MP3 player and its new LCD and Plasma TVs, one area is dedicated to a product type that nobody would mistake for entertainment: laser printers. Samsung makes some rather decent laser printers, so I suppose that somebody decided that they might as well show 'em off at CES, although few of the people passing by had much time to ask about sheet capacity, cartridge page yield, and similar businesslike questions.

Just for the record, then, Samsung is finally shipping its impressively small $299 CLP-300 color laser printer, which it claims is the smallest color laser available, and has introduced the CLX-3160FN color laser multifunction. And if you happen to pass on your way to check out the digital photo frames, say hi to the printer people -- I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
