Rumor has it that Microsoft plans to buy browser rival Opera - a Norway-based company that makes a small browser with a big cult following. Opera denies the rumor. The Redmond giant will use Opera, so the rumor goes, to help it fend off competition from Firefox. An article on CoolTechZone.com, which reported that a Microsoft insider leaked the news, says Microsoft is interested in Opera also for its mobile browser products.

The news comes on the heels of a false rumor that Google was interested in buying the company. The unnamed Microsoft insider claims that Microsoft beat out Google in a bidding war for the company.
